Have you heard about the GDPR opportunity?

The General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) is a new regulation introduced by the European Council, Parliament & Commission that replaces the existing Data Protection Directive. It comes into play on the 25 May 2018.

So, what exactly is GPDR?
All organisations will be legally obliged to report any breach of data related to that of an EU resident - even non EU companies…. So as an example, a breach of data in relation to a EMEA “PaperCutter” would see our ‘global’ organisation being held accountable. By the way, a breach can result in a penalty of up to €20m or 4% of global turnover.

What is a breach of data?
“Any information relating to an individual, whether it relates to his or her private, professional or public life. It can be anything from a name, a home address, a photo, an email address, bank details, post on social networking websites, medical information, or a computer’s IP address”.

How does this impact me?
Well, funny you should say that - this gives us all a great angle to use when positioning PaperCut to those end users who don’t use Print Management. The ability to secure the print stream, secure the printed document and provide an audit chain is now relevant to any organisation who processes or stores any ‘data’ for an EU resident.

How can PaperCut help us?
Whether it be the Accounting, Authentication, FollowMe or even username watermarking - PaperCut can provide the security and visibility required to ensure an organisation can meet this legislation with confidence.

Stay tuned for further info on how PaperCut can help with this great opportunity...

Mobility Print update

After taking a couple hours off coding to celebrate the release of Mobility Print, the team got straight back to work and have added several enhancements, most prominently, the ability to configure printer authentication modes from within the Mobility Print admin console.

The default authentication mode is set to ‘per device’, which means users details are remembered for that device. However, for shared devices you can now enforce authentication per job, which requires user details to be re-entered for each print job. You can read all about this in the updated help section for Mobility Print.

Also, released alongside 17.1 is the ability to make printers visible on selected subnets in your organization. This will be initially managed through a configuration file with instructions made available in the help section for Mobility Print. In the admin console, you will be able to see which subnets are applied for a printer and launch the configuration instructions.

Remember you can always check the Release History section of the help centre to see what enhancements have been included with the latest version. We will continue to notify you of major enhancements in advance of their general release through this newsletter and will conduct training webinars when needed.

"How to" videos

We know how much you love a video...and support tips. Our support team are now adding "How to" videos to our Knowledge base articles. The latest video is on resetting Admin passwords and is available on the PaperCut website.

Don't forget your customers' PUA

Often we're so focused on finding new opportunities, we can forget to show a little bit of love to our existing customers. With 17.0 and 17.1 hitting the street, now is a better time than ever to get back in touch with your customers and share some of the great things they can get. We've been making lots of calls lately to our PaperCut NG direct customers and have loved catching up with what they're doing. It's been easy to share the value of PUA - and close the subscription sale - when there's so many great things that they get.

We appreciate you taking care of our shared customers as well as you do!

Support tip from Pri!
Is your customer concerned about security and leakage of sensitive information?

Remember that security doesn't end at the security of the print system, but also extends to how employees handle printed documents.

With PaperCut's Watermarking, you can apply additional information and an encrypted digital signature to each page of the document. This is a very effective method to change the behavior in an organization, as it adds traceability and accountability to printed documents.

The future of printing...

Dan Quest, PaperCut Partner Alliances Manager, has shared an interesting article within PaperCut: Why we keep printing...   With finding such as "We believe that print volume in the office has peaked and that in the future it is going to shrink, albeit at a relatively low level." by Infotrends Associate Director Andrew Carroll, we thought this article might also be of interest you as it provides a talk track for discussion with dealers and sales teams.

Looking at the different needs of required printing verses discretionary printing and the insights provided was of particular interest to Chris Dance. The article also takes into account the 'millennial effect', resiliency and stabilization. The top three reasons to reduce paper usage - "increase efficiency, reduce paper usage and decrease costs" - align well with PaperCut's product offerings!
